NGC 1598 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Gravestones in the southern sky . It is an estimated 222 million light years away from Earth and has a disk diameter of around 95,000 ly. The galaxies PGC 15172 and NGC 1595 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on December 3, 1837 by the astronomer John Herschel .
