NGC 1583 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 386 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter . Gravitational binding with NGC 1584 is possible .
The object was discovered by Francis Leavenworth on October 17, 1885 .
