NGC 1572 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Caelum in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 266 million light years from the Milky Way and about 190,000 light years in diameter .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2009la was observed here.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on October 23, 1835 .
