NGC 1561 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Dorado at the southern sky . It is an estimated 398 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1563 , NGC 1564 , NGC 1565 , IC 2064 .
The property was discovered by Francis Leavenworth in 1886 .
