NGC 1542 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in Taurus on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 164 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light-years across. Together with seven other galaxies, it forms the NGC 1550 group ( LGG 113 ).
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on November 18, 1863 .
