NGC 1518 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type SBd in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 36 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years across .
The galaxy NGC 1521 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on November 13, 1835 and added by Dreyer to the New General Catalog .
