NGC 1532 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is around 40 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 180,000 light years .
The galaxy is in gravitational contact with the much smaller lens-shaped NGC 1531 . In the picture very well recognizable by the deformations and star formation areas (purple & blue).
The object was discovered on October 29, 1826 by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop .
