NGC 1516 is a pair of interacting galaxies ( NGC 1524 & NGC 1525 ) in the constellation Eridanus . It is about 440 million light years from the Milky Way . The object was discovered on January 30, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
