NGC 1493 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc and is located in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 40 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light-years across . She is the brightest member of the NGC 1493 group ( LGG 106 ).
The object was discovered by James Dunlop on September 2, 1826 .
