NGC 1478 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 443 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1467 , NGC 1472 , NGC 1475 , NGC 1477 .
The property was discovered by Ormond Stone in 1886 .
