NGC 1461 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 62 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on October 6, 1785 by William Herschel with his 18.7-inch reflecting telescope.
