NGC 1463 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the reticulum at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 272 million light years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 1997 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on October 6, 1834 .
