NGC 1502 is the name of an open star cluster in the constellation Giraffe . NGC 1502 has an angular extent of 20.0 'and an apparent magnitude of 6.9 mag. Four with magnitudes of 7 to 8 mag clearly more conspicuous O and B stars dominate around 45 other cluster members with magnitudes of 9 to 11 mag. NGC 1502 is at the end of the eye-catching asterism Kaskade .

The optical double star ADS 2984 is located in the center of the star cluster. Its components are about 18 arc seconds apart. Both are unresolved pairs of hot, massive stars and can only be recognized as such by spectroscopy . Together they make the brightest star system in NGC 1502. The age of the star cluster is given as about ten million years. NGC 1502 is a good 3,000 light years away from us and only about six light years in size.

NGC 1502 was discovered on November 3, 1787 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
