NGC 1521 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Eridanus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 185 million light years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 1518 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on November 21, 1835 .
