NGC 1506 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky . It is an estimated 452 million light years from the Milky Way and about 165,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 2021 , IC 2023 , IC 2028 , IC 2029 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 23, 1837 .
