NGC 1494 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Pendulum Clock in the southern sky . It is an estimated 43 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter . Together with NGC 1483 , NGC 1493 , IC 2000 , PGC 13979 and PGC 14125 it forms the NGC 1493 group .
The object was discovered by the astronomer John Herschel on December 28, 1834 with his 47.5 cm reflecting telescope .
