NGC 1587 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble-type E2 in Taurus on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 162 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light-years across . Together with NGC 1588 , it forms the isolated and interacting galaxy pair KPG 99 or Holm 76 .
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 1586 , NGC 1589 , NGC 1593 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on December 19, 1783 .
