NGC 1609 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 190 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 1607 , NGC 1611 , NGC 1612 , NGC 1613 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on November 26, 1786 .
