NGC 1628 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is an estimated 162 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 90,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1621 and NGC 1627 , among others .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on December 22, 1886 .
