NGC 1636 is a spiral galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 182 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1632 , NGC 1646 , NGC 1648 , IC 384 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on January 30, 1786 .
