NGC 1656 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 164 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 1643 , NGC 1645 , NGC 1659 , NGC 1677 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on February 10, 1830 .
