NGC 1681 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 119 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 2097 , IC 2098 , IC 2101 , IC 2102 .
The object was discovered on January 6, 1878 by Édouard Stephan at the Observatoire de Marseille .
