NGC 1659 = NGC 1677 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 201 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1656 , NGC 1665 , IC 2094 , IC 2095 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on November 28, 1786 .
