NGC 1643 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is an estimated 214 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 1645 , NGC 1656 , NGC 1659 , NGC 1677 are in the same area of the sky .
The supernovae SN 1995G (Type-IIn) and SN 1999et (Type-II) were observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on November 28, 1786 .
