Gerald Pattenden

Gerald Pattenden (* 1940 ) is a British chemist ( organic chemistry ).

Pattenden studied at Queen Mary College, University of London , where he received his doctorate from Basil Weedon . He was a post-doctoral student at the University of Cardiff with Leslie Crombie . He is Professor at the University of Nottingham , where he was Jesse Boot Professor of Organic Chemistry from 1988 to 2005 . From 1997 to 2003 he was Vice President for Research at the university.

He deals with organic synthesis, especially the total synthesis of natural products (especially biologically active ones) and the development of the necessary methods.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (1991). In 2007 he received the Robert Robinson Award and in 1994 he received the Pedler Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry. From 1995 to 1997 he was President of the Perkin Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
