Gerard Byrne (* 1969 in Dublin ) is an Irish installation, photo , video and live artist.

life and work

Byrne studied at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin. In 1991 he received his bachelor's degree and in 1996 received his master's degree from The New School in New York City. He participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program .

Byrne's artistic practice is largely based on the media of video and photography and questions the way in which images are constructed, transmitted and conveyed.

Since March 2018, selected photographs as well as video and slide installations by the artist have been in the group exhibition I'm a Believer. Pop Art and contemporary art from the Lenbachhaus and the KiCo Foundation of the Städtische Galerie can be seen in the Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau Munich. Three of the photographs he took in 2007 are also permanently represented in the museum's collection.
