from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerhard Falkenburg (* approx. 1538 in Nijmegen ; † September 5, 1578 in Steinfurt ; also Gerardus Falkenburgius or Falckenburgius ) was a Dutch humanist . His main work is the edition of the Editio Princeps of the Dionysiacs of the Nonnos of Panopolis .

Falkenburg first studied law in Bourges with Cujacius , later also in Italy, stayed for some time in Paris and in 1563 also in England. In 1569 he lived in Antwerp, where he published the Dionysiacs of Nonnos for the first time together with critical comments and conjectures ( lectiones et coniecturae ) based on a manuscript from the possession of Archbishop Arsenios of Monemvasia (Arsenius Apostolius) .

All that is known about his further fate is that he died in 1578 as a result of a riding accident. At that time he belonged to the retinue of Count Hermann von Neuenahr .
