Gereon Chapel

The Gereon Chapel in Ostbevern was built as a chapel for the relic of St. Gereon built in 1932. The chapel is since 22 November 2001 under the monument .

The relic of St. Gereon comes from the Rengering monastery in Ostbevern. After the dissolution of the monastery, it came into the possession of the Schulze Althoff family, who decided to build a chapel of grace on their courtyard property in 1932. The chapel is on private property, but is usually accessible.

The chapel has a square floor plan with a side length of approx. 5 m. The front is supported by four Doric columns. The roof is covered with a slate hipped roof, which ends in a hood-like roof turret in the middle . Inside there is a prayer bench and a simple oak altar. The carved altarpiece shows the Adoration of the Shepherds. Behind the altar cross is the relic of St. Gereon in a simple brass-colored container . On the front it says: Sanct Gereon Ora pro nobis .
