Gerhard Adrian

Gerhard Adrian (born September 16, 1956 ) is a German meteorologist . He is the chairman of the World Meteorological Organization .

education and profession

Adrian studied meteorology at the University of Karlsruhe from 1975 to 1981. This was followed by his doctorate, which he completed in 1985. In 1993 he completed his habilitation in the field of meteorology. This was followed by substitute professorships at the University of Karlsruhe and the University of Mainz .

In 1999 Adrian went to the German Weather Service as head of research and development. In 2006 he was appointed Vice President. In 2010 Adrian succeeded Wolfgang Kusch as President of the DWD. In 2019 he was elected chairman of the World Meteorological Organization.
