Filomena de Almeida

Filomena de Almeida is an East Timorese independence activist and a functionary of the FRETILIN party .

Career

Like her husband Estanislau da Silva, Almeida was a member of the group around the Casa dos Timores , a meeting place for left-wing East Timores students in Lisbon after the Carnation Revolution in 1974. During the Indonesian occupation (1975-1999) she worked in the FRETILIN delegation in Mozambique , who visited several African countries to find support for East Timor. She was also a member of the youth delegation for Cuba . She later moved to Australia , where she continued her work for FRETILIN. This also includes writing down the history of FRETILIN. After East Timor's independence in 2002, Almeida returned to East Timor, where she continued to be active as a FRETILIN member. She works in the party's Propaganda and Information (DEPIM) department.

family

Almeida is the wife of Estanislau da Silva, who briefly served as Prime Minister of East Timor in 2007 . Her brother is Aires de Almeida . The family is originally from India .
