Gerhard Halfred von Koch

Richert Gerhard Halfred von Koch ( pronunciation : [ ˌ ʝæːɹhaɹd ˌhalːfɹed fɔnˈkɔkː ], born January 13, 1872 in Stockholm , † March 16, 1948 in Stockholm) was a liberal Swedish social politician.

Von Koch came from a wealthy and talented family. His brother Helge von Koch was a mathematician, Sigurd von Koch , another brother, was a composer.

Gerhard Halfred von Koch was initially manager of several large farms, but soon emerged as a social politician. After several trips to England, he published an influential pamphlet on the British consumer cooperative movement and acted as the main initiator of the large cooperative purchasing company Kooperativa Förbundet , of which he was founding secretary from 1899 to 1905. Von Koch was also involved in founding the Swedish People's Education Association in 1903 and in the same year when the Central Association for Social Work was founded. From 1919 to 1938 Gerhard Halfred von Koch was the state inspector for the poor, from 1939 to 1941 he was chairman of the state refugee aid.

From 1915 to 1926, von Koch represented the district of Örebro in the first chamber of the Swedish Reichstag as a free-spirited liberal .
