Gerhard Harkenthal (born January 15, 1914 in Aschersleben ; † April 4, 1985 there ) was a German lawyer and writer .

Life

After an apprenticeship in banking and temporary work as a dance violinist, Harkenthal studied law and then worked as a lawyer . His first suggestions for literary activity came from this professional field - in the years that followed, crime literature remained Harkenthal's main field of work. For the conflicts he portrayed, he often chose a historical background.

Another subject of his work was the contemporary world. After traveling to Tanzania , for example, in 1970 , Harkenthal addressed the experiences of a young teacher from the GDR in Africa in the novel Durststrecken .
