Gerhard Matzke

Gerhard Matzke (born January 15, 1925 in Waltershausen , Thuringia ) is a German science fiction author.

Life

After eight years of elementary school, Matzke attended commercial school. After two years as a worker in a rubber factory, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner by the British in August 1944. His first literary attempts appeared in a camp magazine. After returning from captivity, he became head of the planning and standards department at VEB Gummikombinat Thuringia, got involved in cultural work and in 1965 became editor of the company newspaper of the Waltershausen rubber works.

In 1967 the science fiction novel Mars Moon Phobos was published in the Kompass library of the Berlin publishing house Neues Leben , which is about the adventures of a boy who is a stowaway on an expedition to Mars . In 1976, Project Pluto was followed by a second SF novel for young people.
