Gerhard Zotter

Gerhard Zotter (born April 24, 1941 ) is a former Austrian judoka .

Athletic career

The 1.69 m tall Gerhard Zotter from ASKÖ Graz was the Austrian lightweight junior champion in 1962. In 1963 he entered the lightweight amateurs' European championships in Geneva and received a bronze medal.

In 1964 judo was on the Olympic program for the first time. At the Olympic tournament in Tokyo there were eight lightweight groups with three or four fighters, from which the winner rose to the final round. Zotter had caught the only group with four fighters. He won his fights against Vicente Uematsu from the Philippines by throwing the thigh (Uchi-mata), Oscar Karpencopf from Argentina by grabbing (Kesa-Gatame) and Rene Arredondo from Mexico by grabbing (Kinsa). In the quarterfinals, Gerhard Zotter lost to the Swiss Eric Hänni by Uchi-mata. Zotter is led together with the other losers of the quarter-finals as fifth in the lightweight. In 1965 Zotter was Austrian champion in the weight class up to 70 kilograms, in 1966 in the weight class up to 63 kilograms.
