Haoua Dia Thiam (* 1959 in Bamako , Mali ) is a Senegalese politician who was minister several times.

Life

Haoua Dia Thiam completed a degree in geography at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar in Dakar , which she completed with a Magister (Maîtrise en geographie ) . She completed her studies at the École normal supérieure (ENS) with a certificate of aptitude from the secondary school CAES (certificat d'aptitude à l'enseignement secondaire) and then worked as a teacher. During her studies, in 1978, she became a member of the Party Together / African Party for Democracy and Socialism And Jëf / PADS (And Jëf / Parti Africain pour la Démocratie et le Socialisme) or its forerunner Roots of the Nation (Reenu-Rew / racines de la nation) . Initially she was involved in local politics and was a member of the council of Médina , a district of Dakar , between 1996 and 2014 . After she left And Jëf / PADS, she became a member of the Democratic Party of PDS ( Parti Démocratique Sénégalais ) .

After Abdoulaye Wade was elected President , Haoua Dia Thiam became Minister for Parliamentary Relations (Ministre des Relations avec les Assemblées) in Prime Minister Moustapha Niasse's second cabinet in April 2000 . In the subsequent cabinet of Prime Minister Mame Madior Boye , she acted between March 2001 and November 2002 as Minister for Relations with the Institutions (Ministre des Relations avec les Institutions) . On the national list of the PDS, she was elected for the first time in the elections on April 29, 2001 as a member of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale du Sénégal) , to which she belonged until February 25, 2007. During her parliamentary membership between 2001 and 2007, she was also chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad (Commission des affaires étrangères et des sénégalais de l'extérieur) as well as general rapporteur for the budget. She completed postgraduate studies in diplomacy and political strategy in 2009 with a Diplôme d'études supérieures spécialisées (DESS).

After leaving the PDS, Haoua Dia Thiam founded her own political group with Yonu Askan wi . This became part of the coalition Association of Hope BBY (Benno Bokk Yakaar / Unis par l'espoir) . In the elections on July 1, 2012 , she was re-elected to the BBY's list in Dakar as a member of the National Assembly, where she initially acted as Chair of the Committee for Culture and Communication (Commission des culture et Communication) between July 2012 and October 2013 and then since October 2013 as Chair of the Committee on Health, Population, Social Affairs and National Solidarity (Commission des santé, population, affaires sociales et solidarité nationale). In the elections on July 30, 2017 , she was not re-elected as a member of the National Assembly.
