Allocation of seats in the 13th National Assembly

The elections for the 13th National Assembly of Senegal took place on July 30, 2017 in the West African state of Senegal . The ruling coalition Benno Bokk Yakaar ("Unis par l'espoir - United in Hope") was victorious with a two-thirds majority of the seats .

Suffrage

The composition of the Senegalese National Assembly is determined by a mixture of proportional and majority voting: 60 of the 165 seats are awarded proportionally to the nationwide votes, the remaining 105 by majority vote in the electoral districts.

Results

47 parties and lists ran for election. 6,219,446 citizens in Germany and abroad were registered as eligible to vote. 3,337,494 voters took part in the election. This results in a turnout of 53.66 percent.

The coalition Benno Bokk Yakaar ("Unis par l'espoir - United in hope") of incumbent Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne achieved a clear two-thirds majority of the seats in the National Assembly with a share of 49.47% of the votes with 95 constituency and 30 list mandates.

The second strongest party was the coalition gagnante Wattu Senegaal of long-time President Abdoulaye Wade . With a share of 16.68% of the vote, it won 9 constituency and 10 list mandates. In particular, she won all five direct mandates in the densely populated Mbacké department , to which the pilgrim metropolis Touba belongs.

The remaining 21 seats in parliament are spread over 11 other parties and lists.

After the 13th National Assembly was constituted, Moustapha Niasse was re-elected President.
