Court linden tree in Amönau

The judicial linden tree is a tree monument in Amönau , Marburg-Biedenkopf district . The linden tree has a trunk circumference of 4.95 m and a height of 30 m.

The exact age of the summer linden is not known. Perhaps it dates from around 1650, when linden trees were planted out of gratitude for the end of the Thirty Years War . It may have been planted by the von Baumbach family , a branch of whom had moved here in 1711 from Tannenberg Castle near Nentershausen .

In fact, the tree was not a judicial linden ; this name was only given to it in the 1950s by the then head of the school in Amönau. A lightning strike in 1954 caused damage to the trunk. In 1984 the rotten areas in the trunk and the dead wood in the treetop were renovated. The tree has been registered as a natural monument since the 1950s .
