Germaan

Germaan is the name of a Dutch bicycle factory of the 20th century. The company was founded in Meppel in 1894 and began industrial production of bicycles in 1904.

In their original design, these bikes only have one coaster brake. For export to Germany , the wheels were equipped with stamp or rim brakes that acted on the front wheel.

In the 1960s, many Dutch two-wheeler manufacturers came under pressure. In a wave of takeovers and mergers, Germaan was taken over by Phoenix ( RMW-Motorradwerke ) in 1963 . This company had previously bought out competitor Fongers from Groningen . Today the entire company belongs to Batavus , but bikes with the name Germaan are no longer offered.
