The German International School Washington DC (abbreviation GISW ), German School Washington (abbreviation DSW ) is a German school abroad in Washington, DC in the United States. It opened on September 11, 1961 with 33 students.
All German school-leaving qualifications as well as the American high school diploma can be obtained at the school . The private school and the connected kindergarten are run by the German School Association Washington, DC. 57 German-speaking teachers are currently teaching at the DSW. There are about 600 students. Petra Palenzatis has been the headmaster since September 1st, 2015.
The language of instruction is bilingual (German and English). Yearbooks have been published since the end of the 1973/74 school year .
For attending school or kindergarten, four to five-figure school fees are charged despite German subsidies.
