German Olympians: Association of German Olympians

The German Olympians: Association of German Olympians e. V. (GdO) was founded on June 25, 1971 by Hans Fritsch as the German section of Olympians International , in which he was vice-president.

The association, based in Frankfurt am Main , claims to be politically and ideologically neutral. It is committed to fairness , doping-free sport and also honors the memory of deceased participants in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. To this end, they meet (at least) once a year and comment on sport-political issues. Members are not only former Olympic participants from all German teams in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also selected personalities who have made a special contribution to promoting the Olympic spirit. Thus Olympians International (now World Olympians Association Lausanne) years of Sir Edgar Stephen Tanner (President of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956) out.

Karlheinz Smieszek has been president since 2018 .
