Handeck – Gerstenegg cable car

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cable car Handeck-Gerstenegg is one of four cable cars of the Oberhasli power plants , which operate scheduled routes to the public.

location

The journey leads from the Handeck (1310 m) in eleven minutes to the Gerstenegg (1710 m) at the foot of the Räterichsboden dam .

history

The aerial tramway for 51 people supplemented the parallel, older 6-person tramway from 1953 from 1974. It owes its existence to the construction of the underground pumped storage power station Grimsel 2.

use

Ski tourers can take the cable car to the Grimsel area. In winter, the pass road in the Guttannen - Handeck section can only be used with a permit. This is given by the KWO's central control center by telephone. The post bus runs on request at the post driver, the extension of Guttannen to Handeck, bringing the tour operator at an agreed time again. As soon as the Grimselstrasse to Gerstenegg is open in spring , rail operations will be closed to the public.

In summer, the lift only operates for internal purposes and for groups of visitors. In public operations, a maximum of eight people are allowed to travel per journey, as the railway only has one cantonal license. In addition to the two cabins, there are also two load bars with a payload of up to 8 tons.
