The Gersthofer Sportvereinigung is a football club from the Gersthof district of Währingen in Vienna . The club currently plays in the fifth class 2nd national league . His club colors are green and white.

history

Around 1909, football enthusiasts Gersthofer met regularly for games on the Haider grounds for the first time. In 1912, the Gerstofer Spielvereinigung was founded and registered with the Vienna Football Association. The club had its most successful period in the 1920s. From 1919 to 1921 they played their way up from 4th grade to the second highest soccer league in Austria. Already in the first year in the 2nd class in 1922 you could take 4th place.

During this time, the club enjoyed great popularity. Almost 8,000 spectators attended a friendly against Rapid Vienna . In 1925, however, professionalism was introduced in Austria in the highest two levels of play, which forced the small suburban club to voluntarily relegate to the third division. In the following year, however, the club managed to return to the second class and embarked on the adventure of professionalism. Until relegation in 1932, the Gersthofer could hold uninterrupted in the second division.

After the Second World War , the club could no longer build on the successes of the 1920s. Since 1999 they have been playing in the fourth class Vienna City League . The greatest success of modern times was the entry into the Toto Cup final in 1994/95, which they lost on June 8, 1995 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna after a 2-0 break against Wacker Vienna with 2: 4.
