The Gertrudis pen is a pen in the municipality of Ruppichteroth . It was founded in 1916 by Pastor Heinrich Stommel from America .

Stommel came from Ruppichteroth, had emigrated to America and made several foundations for his home community. At the request of the local pastor, Dechant Lapp, he also made a not inconsiderable contribution to the house of the monastery. It should be named after his sister.

On July 16, 1916, four sisters of the Order of the Precious Blood moved into the house with the Superior General, Mother Paula, and the General Treasurer, Mother Bernardine. The sisters worked as nurses, kindergarten teachers and sewing teachers. The economic supply was sometimes meager, and people were happy to receive a cow as a gift . After the Second World War , the Ruppichteroth congregation asked the sisters to take care of the local hospital at short notice.

After Matron Editha, Sister Aureliana was given the office of Matron in 1946. In 1950 the monastery applied to be allowed to use the building as a retirement home in order to generate income from the care of the elderly. Pastor Stommel's foundation at the time had become worthless due to inflation and currency reforms. Since the plan was not pursued by the parish due to lack of capital or other tasks, the order terminated the contract for the house that belonged to the parish in 1958. Due to the high renovation costs of 150,000 marks, the parish donated the house to the monastery in 1958. In 1959 the order built a new building with a chapel.

Today some nuns still live in the monastery.
