This 173 × 220 cm painting, which was excluded from the World Exhibition in 1878 because of its provocative nudity, is now in the Musée des beaux-arts de Bordeaux in Bordeaux . Furthermore, the decorative paintings for Paris town halls and other public buildings such as the civil wedding and the canal basin of La Villette are well-known works of the painter.

In 1913, Henri Gervex was accepted into the Académie des Beaux Arts .
