Johan Vilhelm Gertner
Johan Vilhelm Gertner (born May 10, 1818 in Copenhagen ; † March 29, 1871 ibid) was a Danish painter .
life and work
Gertner attended the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen and initially drew objects for the Museum of Antiquities for copperplate engraving . Gertner was commissioned to record the celebrations for the anointing of Christian VIII on June 28, 1840 in several monumental pictures.
Gertner later turned to portraiture . He was attested to have a confident, if somewhat superficial, sense of form, a self-confident choice of colors and the ability to characterize his models appropriately, but not always pleasantly.
He was a member of the Copenhagen Masonic Lodge "Zorobabel zum Nordstern".
