Business process model
Analogous to the general term model , business process models can be understood as purpose-oriented illustrations of business processes created according to a certain system and form of representation . Their structure essentially reflects the chronological and logical sequence of the functions under consideration. Due to their general model characteristics, business process models are used for the documentation , analysis and design of business processes, as a basis for the automated processing or support of processes ( workflow management ) as well as to support communication about business processes.
Further areas of application are:
- Business Process Reengineering (BPR)
- Process management as a continuation of workflow management
- Support in the selection and customizing (adaptation to customer specifications) of standard business software
- Requirements management
- Quality management (e.g. DIN ISO 9000 ff.)
- Definition of the work flow and process-oriented knowledge management
The structural graphic opposite (a meta model ) shows facts that can be represented and described in a business process model.
