The protected landscape component of the Steltenberg quarry with an area of ​​1.03  ha is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The protected landscape component (LB) is located in the Hohenlimburg district of Hagen . The LB was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. It lies like an island in the nature reserve Steltenberg, Oege .

The LB is located in the southwestern edge area of ​​the Steltenberg quarry of the Hohenlimburg lime works, which is currently being mined . It is a lean lime lawn as well as the adjoining rock walls of the quarry and the adjacent woodland.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation was carried out to ensure the efficiency of the natural balance by maintaining a habitat, in particular for heat- and lime-loving animal and plant species and their communities and to ward off harmful effects on the limestone semi-arid grassland.

Prohibitions and requirements in the LB

Special prohibitions and requirements were issued for the protected landscape component of the Steltenberg quarry . In addition to the prohibitions for all protected landscape components in Hagen, forestry use is prohibited in this LB. The maintenance of the limestone semi-dry lawn by removing woody trees was stipulated as a requirement.
