The landscape protection area Steltenberg, Oege with an area of 87.21  hectares is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The landscape protection area (LSG) is located in the Hohenlimburg district of Hagen . The LSG was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen.

description

The LSG consists of two sub-areas. The smaller western part of the area is completely surrounded by buildings. The eastern sub-area borders directly on the buildings in the north-west and south. The Steltenberg nature reserve is directly adjacent to this area in the west . It goes in the east to the city limits to Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis (MK). The areas in the MK belong to the Iserlohn Type A landscape protection area . The majority of the LSG is the Hohenlimburg Kalkwerke quarry, which is still being dismantled . The protected landscape component of the Steltenberg quarry lies like an island in the LSG. The areas that do not belong to the quarry are covered with forest.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation was made “because of the diversity, character and beauty of the landscape, in particular through the safeguarding and development of near-natural habitats in the course of the preparation of the quarry and because of the special importance of the forest area for recreational use aimed at experiencing nature”.
