Society of Friends of Radio History

The Society of Friends of the History of Radiocommunication e. V. is an association with its seat in Düsseldorf that has existed since 1978 and is committed to the preservation of historical radio technology .

Goals and Activities

Musicians from the Gymnasium Neubiberg perform historical radio music and breaks during the GFGF general meeting 2016 in the hall of honor of the Deutsches Museum .

The purpose of the association is to promote science, research and education in the field of the history of radio communications.

The purpose of the association is realized by

  • Promotion of the collection, rescue, evaluation and preservation of radio historical knowledge and certificates.
  • Research and presentation of the history of radio transmission with all its ancillary areas through own research and publication of the results.
  • Conducting conferences, seminars, courses and lectures on the history of radio communications.
  • Implementation and support of exhibitions on the history of radio communications.
  • Establishment and maintenance of a radio history archive .
  • Funding of radio history projects.

The GFGF awards a sponsorship award at irregular intervals. B. Margot Fuchs received in 2005 for her work on Georg Graf von Arco .

The association publishes a message ("Funkgeschichte") for members of the GFGF every two months. This includes specialist articles on all areas of historical radio technology, event and literature references, tips on restoration and an advertising market with exchange, purchase and search ads. In Hainichen in central Saxony, the GFGF maintains an archive of radio historical records and documents on an area of ​​over 100 m².

The GFGF supports publications (books) whose content deals with aspects of historical radio technology.

With the aim of saving radio historical events and research as well as the corresponding equipment from being forgotten, the GFGF was founded as the successor to the association “Radio History Interest Group” on June 18, 1978 with its seat in Düsseldorf.

The GFGF currently has a good 2100 members (as of mid-2015). Most of the members are from Germany, but a large number also from neighboring countries and overseas.
