Society for Developmental Biology

The Society for Developmental Biology (GfE) is an association of geneticists , molecular biologists , physicians , zoologists and botanists from the German-speaking area who conduct research in the field of developmental biology .

The association, based in Cologne , organizes scientific conferences every two years and supports the activities of its members in this research area, for example at colloquia, workshops or symposia. It also runs a regular summer school for students who want to specialize in developmental biology.

The society was founded in 1976 and currently has around 405 members, mainly from Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The chairman is Ulrich Technau at the Department of Molecular Evolution and Development at the University of Vienna . The GfE is a member of the VBIO . The GfE awards young scientists the GfE doctoral prize for outstanding dissertations in the field of developmental biology and awards science prizes for outstanding research.
